Industrialized construction
PAS 8700:2025, Modern methods of construction for new build residential properties – Specification, Draft v 3.9, published by bsi in 2024, defines industrialized construction (or delivery) as: ‘standard systems, processes, mechanized production and advanced technology that can be repeatedly deployed across many projects through stable relationships. NOTE This approach unlocks the benefits of learning through repetition (robust feedback loops), provides stable employment opportunities and ongoing skills development, and broadens the available labour pool with the potential to significantly improve workforce diversity and inclusion. By embracing this “production mindset”, the construction sector can be transformed from one primarily based on manual labour and craftsmanship. As Industrialized construction approaches mature, process standardization and automation are extending to costing, procurement, logistics, maintenance and beyond.’
